About our Governors

Mr Kevin Cockram, Chair of Governors

I have worked for the learning disabilities and mental health services since 1979 in Exeter and Plymouth. I was actively involved at Plaistow Hill when my own children attended the school over 30 year ago. I returned to the Governing Body at Plaistow in 2013, before and during the time of my grandchildren who have also attended their time at the school. I am now semi-retired from my managerial position here in Plymouth, continuing to work part time in local mental health services. I have held positions as Governor, Vice Chair and now being newly appointed as Chair to the Governing Body at Plaistow enabling me to continue to support the school using my managerial skills and knowledge, as a continuing active Governing member.

Mrs Emma Young, Acting Headteacher

As Acting Headteacher, Mrs Young is a member of the Governing Body.

Mrs Beccy Knight, Co-opted Governor

"After 17 years I retired from working as a School Business Manager in a Plymouth secondary school. I am now working part time with a national company training, supporting and assessing School Business Managers as they study for Level 4, 5 and 6 qualifications in school business management. I enjoy playing an active role in the life of school and strive to give all children who attend Plaistow Hill the opportunity to achieve and aspire to fulfil their full potential. I hope that my experience in the management of finance, HR, premises and health and safety can prove useful as a member of the Governing body."

Mrs Becky Edmonds, Staff Governor

Mrs Edmonds, EYFS Teacher, is also a Staff Governor.

Mrs Mary-Jane Saunders, Parent Goveror

“I am a local Mum with 2 children attending the school. Having spent over 15 years in Primary Education I wanted to use my skills, knowledge & understanding to become part of the team and be actively involved in supporting the school. As a teacher and a parent, I feel passionately about all children’s learning and enabling all children to achieve their full potential.

I currently run a community interest company running singing sessions to help mental well-being, you may hear us singing on the school run! “

Mrs Kath Chandler, Parent Governor

"I have worked in education for the past 15 years, starting my career as an SEN TA and progressing to HLTA with a passion for well-being.  My current role is EAL Lead and SEN HLTA in a secondary school in the city.  I have recently completed a BA HONOURS Degree in Education Studies and Psychology, a Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning, and I am a Trauma-Informed and Mental Health Practitioner.

I thoroughly enjoy working with young people and every day is different. I'm excited to come to work each day and I am equally as excited to become a Governor at Plaistow hill.

Creativity in education and happiness is extremely important to me, and if I can help support and encourage both staff and children alike to achieve their dreams and aspirations, then my work is complete."
